Wow...what a weird movie. I asked for some enlightenment on The Nest, and a few people indicated the main theme of the movie is fate (whereas I thought it was God/religion). I can see Bardem's character personifying fate. He just swoops in and does his thing, leaving everyone else to flounder in the wreckage. He's kind to some, devastating to others...he has a strange logic for his actions, but it doesn't make sense to the outside world. I guess that is sort of life, in a nutshell.
While the acting was excellent and I'm sure there is some master plan behind its symbolism and graphic imagery, I am still not crazy about the movie. But I can appreciate it more the better I understand it.
I give No Country for Old Men ** stars out of ****. If you want deep and compelling, I'd recommend Return to Paradise or Donnie Darko (which is at least more fun!).
