I just got an e-mail from Stevenson HS. The ELL coordinator would like me to interview at 11 a.m. on 4/20. No positions are listed yet, but the school would like to have an ESL teacher lined up if something does become available.
I am not sure how to handle this. First of all, 11 a.m. is a very inconvenient time for me...any time before 10 a.m. or after 2 p.m. would work much better, so I'd only have to miss half of a work day of work instead of a whole day. I don't know how to express this without appearing ungrateful for the opportunity.
Also, I am worried an ESL position at Stevenson would not be very secure. We're talking an extremely affluent area...they probably don't have a consistent need for an ESL program. What happens if they need me for the 09/10 school year but not the following year? Am I out on my can at that point? I have a job I like right now. No, it is not end-game for me. I have aspirations of being an ESL teacher at a public school. But, am I willing to leave my current position (as center director), which I happen to like a lot, for something that is so uncertain?
I am going to think about it for a few days. I don't want to make any rash decisions. I do have to make a decision; luckily, I don't have to make it today.
