Funny Friday

Hmmm...I find so many things that happen--especially at work--amusing, so it's hard to narrow it down to just one! One of the funniest things that happened this week was a student pretty much calling me a prostitute. He didn't mean it that way AT ALL, but that's totally how it came out. He was trying to paraphrase what I had told the class earlier--that they needed to be quiet and on-task because the district pays for them to be in the program, so they have an obligation to not let that money go to waste. Somehow, my student ended up twisting it and saying something to the effect of, "Mrs. W gets paid to entertain us." Everyone started laughing after the connotation sank in. Luckily, I know the kid very well and am confident he didn't mean to say something inappropriate or disrespectful. He was embarrassed (but laughing, of course) when he realized how it sounded. Such is the life of a high school teacher! And, let me tell you, a room filled with 17 and 18-year-old boys can be both frustrating and hilarious! Ah, how I love my students...but I am so glad it's a three-day weekend!!!
