What's a Girl to Do?

So...I got a call from Simmons MS. I never applied for a job there. The voicemail I received said they got my info off the Kane Co Consortium. I'm assuming that means they saw me and are interested. The only current job listing for Simmons MS is for an ESL Interventionist. I have NO IDEA what that means! The position requires an MA and a Reading Endorsement, neither of which I have. I am halfway to an MA, but I still have 6 courses to go. I already scheduled an interview for Wednesday at 2:00. Do you think it's still worth it? How would you approach the position, if you weren't 100% sure of the specifics or if you were even qualified enough for it?

Also, I like the job I have now. Petty personality conflicts with co-teachers aside, it is a rewarding experience. And it is a stable position - my job isn't going anywhere and is there if I want it. Of course my ultimate goal is to get a public school position, but I just fear budget issues could lead to any ESL-related job I might take getting cut. Then I'd be back to square one.

Would you risk the sure-thing for something that *might* be better? I mean, there is no guarantee I'd like teaching ESL. Is it worth the gamble? I am so bad at taking risks. I generally hate change, unless I am 100% sure it is for the better. I tend to anticipate the worst-case scenario, which makes me even more nervous about trying something new.

I just don't want to be another unemployed teacher in the state of Illinois. I am honestly lucky I am even teaching at all...English positions are hard to come by! I know plenty of certified teachers currently working in retail because they can't find a teaching position. Is it selfish or naive to aim higher in these economic times, when things are pretty decent as they are? Do you think the adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies here? Thoughts? Advice? HELP!!!!

ESOL positions aren't going anywhere, in any state. I think you're pretty safe in that respect.

I think you should definitely go to the interview. If anything, it's an experience.

Don't get ahead of yourself. Wait and see if they offer you the job and then you can worry.

Taking risks can be scary - I'm definitely on that threshold myself!!! But just remember you have a family, husband, and friends who will support you if things go great or not so great. You're doing that thing right now where you're worrying when you don't even know what the choices might be. Just relax, do you best to prepare for the interview, and go from there.

We are so alike sometimes it scares me! :)
