Butterflies Are Free

Butterflies Are Free, a romantic drama made in the 1970's, has stood the test of time. While the styles and some of the lingo are a bit dated, the central themes and emotions are genuine and universal. The three main actors (Goldie Hawn is among them) deliver AMAZING performances.

The movie is about Don, a young blind man who recently moved out of his mother's house in an attempt to establish his independence. One day his neighbor (played by Goldie) drops by for introductions and coffee and there are immediate fireworks. They spend the rest of that day and night getting to know each other; everything appears to be going great until Don's mother shows up unexpectedly and things get complicated.

I won't divulge any other details; I'll just say the film is very entertaining and very touching. There is one scene where Don discovers something and he silently fights back the tears as everyone else in the room bustles about him. The camera focuses on his face during that time, and you can't help but feel what he is feeling. That movie moment has to be one of the best I've ever seen. It really sucked me in and took my breath away. The whole movie is worth seeing for that moment alone. The ending ain't too shabby, either ;)
