I had no idea bourbon is so strong!! I took about 3 swigs from one of the bottles in Matt's bourbon collection as soon as I got home (it has seriously been the week from Hell). I thought, I know they use this stuff in movies to take the edge off or help along a minor illness (i.e. sore throat). Well...3 swigs + 15 minutes = officially drunk. My neck is relaxed and my head isn't pounding anymore, so maybe bourbon has some medicinal value after all!
What has made this week so horrendous, you ask? I couldn't even tell you! It isn't just one thing...it's like a million little things. My students did nothing but complain all week; due to lack of funds, I didn't get my usual morning java fix this week; I was short one staff member all week, so just the two of us had to balance managing the students, corresponding with admin and the district, and running IEP meetings in the back room; like I said - all little annoyances, right?!
Well, here is the kicker...Lakewood Homes no longer owns my subdivision, which means all development has ceased; if another company doesn't swoop down and grab this property and start building again, the second half of our development might not be kept up, which might not be good for resale value. This is what has me the most upset and concerned. We thought buying here would be a wise decision and would allow us to eventually (I'm talking 5-7 years) move into our Forever Home. I know this situation is economy-dictated, so I guess things could turn around if/when the economy picks up. It is just disappointing. I feel like Lakewood just left us stranded out here. Hopefully, it all works out for the best. Nothing I can do about it right now, so I'm just going to enjoy my house, be thankful I even have one in these tough times, and try not to worry about it.
The silver lining? No students tomorrow or Monday (yes, I have to work Monday)!! And tonight is a new episode of The Vampire Diaries!
Matt and I may try for a weekend getaway, which means we'll be running errands (haircuts, oil changes, new license plate sticker for the Rover, etc) like crazy tomorrow evening. I don't know if I'm up for that, but I need to get OUT - the idea of being anywhere but here Saturday and Sunday sure is appealing! :-P

Ugh, what a tense week!
I knew! I love bourbon - Maker's Mark is my favorite, although Knob Creek and Woodford Reserve make me just as happy. My husband and I once lost power for 4 days as a result of an ice storm. We discovered that we could get through just about anything with a bottle of Maker's, a box of tangerines (I'd just gotten them when it happened) and two big dogs to keep the toes warm. :)
It's also lovely with tea, lemon and honey - served warm, when you're not feeling good. It'll help you sleep better than Nyquil. Although, that could be because sometimes I forget to put the tea in. Tastes a little awful, but has huge results in getting rid of a cold.
I can't do brown liquor. Give me vodka any day of the week. Hats off to you for trying. Perhaps next time I'll try it when I'm sick, though. Couldn't hurt! :)
I know how you're feeling with buying at the wrong time. I'm stuck in my situation, too. I just keep having faith that things will pick up and I'll be able to sell for what I paid, instead of 40k less, which is what's happening in my neighborhood now.
